Dr. Isam Sayed Mahmoud Salih

Dr. Isam Salih is a UK-qualified stroke consultant with 24 years of experience in cerebrovascular disease. His career spans the full spectrum of stroke care, from prevention and hyper-acute treatment to rehabilitation and long-term care after stroke.

With a distinguished record of accomplishment in clinical practice, academia, and research, Dr. Salih has made significant contributions to leading medical institutions in the UK. He specialises in vascular neurology, stroke management, hypertension, and clinical pharmacology, and is a Fellowof the Royal College of Physicians, UK. In addition to his clinical excellence, Dr. Salih serves as the Director of Stroke Service and Chair of the SEHA Stroke Committee, where he has demonstrated exemplary leadership in advancing stroke care. His contributions to integrated stroke service models include delivering training across the UK and publishing original research in prestigious international stroke journals. Dr. Salih’s exceptional work has earned him the prestigious NHS Clinical Excellence Award Level 4, recognising his outstanding quality, excellence, and contributions that go above and beyond the standard expectations of a consultant role.

Dr. Aiman Quateen

Dr. Aiman Salem Quateen is a consultant interventional neuroradiologist with 16 years of experience and chair of Division of Interventional Neuroradiology. He is Canadian Board Certified in diagnostic radiology (FRCPC), and he holds three prestigious fellowships.

Dr. Quateen has a fellowship in interventional vascular radiology from the University of Ottawa, Canada and holds a fellowship in interventional neuroradiology (University of Ottawa) and a fellowship in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology from Dalhousie University, Canada. Dr. Quateen specialises in treating stroke by mechanical thrombectomy, angioplasty and carotid artery stenting. He is highly skilled in intracranial and extracranial stenting and offers treatment for complex brain aneurysms, including coiling, flow diverters and intrasacular devices. He performs endovascular procedures for brain vascular malformations through embolisation and is experienced in the embolisation of tumours, the management of epistaxis, and the treatment of chronic subdural haematoma. His expertise extends to sclerotherapy for head and neck vascular malformations and complex spine pain management, including interventions such as vertebroplasty.

Dr. Ahmed Shatila

Dr. Shatila has over 17 years of experience in the field of neurology, treating and managing patients with all types of neurological disorders. He has a special interest in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and manages the MS Clinic at SSMC.

He is also dedicated to spreading public awareness about neurological disorders and advocating for people with disabilities. Dr. Shatila obtained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biology from Wayne State University in the United States and then earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the same university. He completed his residency and neurophysiology fellowship at the Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University. In addition to his clinical roles, he has been invited as a guest speaker at many local and international conferences and has authored numerous publications and research papers discussing a wide range of neurological disorders.

Dr. Waseem Fathalla

Dr. Fathalla obtained his medical degree from Damascus University Medical School and completed his Paediatric Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in 1997, in which he gained an American Board General Paediatrics certification. He then completed a 3-year child neurology residency at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas (1997-2000).

He holds American board certification in neurology with a special qualification in children’s neurology. Furthermore, Dr. Fathallah’s areas of specialised interest include critical care neurology, neurometabolic/neurogenetic disorders, end-of-life care and Islamic bioethics. In addition to his medical accomplishments, he holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Islamic Science. Dr. Fathalla served as programme director in the paediatric residency programme (2017-2022). He is currently an associate programme director of the general paediatric residency.

Dr. Waseem Aziz

Dr. Aziz is a highly accomplished neurosurgeon with 23 years of extensive experience in both academic and clinical settings. Prior to joining SSMC, he served as Consultant and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Mediclinic and as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Tawam Hospital.

Dr. Aziz graduated from the University of Alexandria in Egypt with a medical degree in 1998 and completed his master’s degree in surgery in 2003, as well as his PhD in neurosurgery in 2010. In 2005, Dr. Aziz received his fellowship in skull base surgery, endovascular neurosurgery and neuro-anatomical studies at Keio University in Japan. He then completed a research fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute in the USA in 2009, after receiving training at the Foundation A. Rothschild in France. Dr. Aziz was granted the prestigious Associate Professor title in 2018 in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Alexandria.
