Dr Awatai is a Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. She has developed and maintained a special interest in foeto-maternal medicine, high-risk obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery, medical education and clinical governance. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (F.R.C.O.G.). In addition, she has been awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, UK. She has attained the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Scanning from the Royal College of Radiologists and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK, as well as the Postgraduate Diploma for Family Planning and Reproductive Health, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (D.F.F.P.) and attained Membership of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is accredited by the British Society of Gynaecology and Endoscopy for Level II Minimal Access Surgery. She graduated from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, with an M.B.B.S. in 1990. Dr. Awatai has contributed immensely to the field of obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK and the UAE. She has held several senior leadership positions including Head of Clinical Governance and Lead Consultant for Maternal Medicine at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Hospital, Chair Quality Improvement and Clinical Audit, Associate Programme Director for Family Medicine at Corniche Hospital, Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Burjeel and Sulaiman Al Habib Hospitals and Medical Director of Dr. Mariam Awatai Clinic in Dubai Healthcare City. Dr. Awatai is a keen speaker and medical educator, author of published papers and has been recognised internationally for her work.
