The Department of Thoracic Surgery at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) is one of the most unique facilities of its kind in the UAE, offering a full range of thoracic surgical services – from trauma, infections, and pleural diseases – while providing patients with a distinctive care experience and measurable outcomes in line with international standards.
This is achieved through a patient-centred model of care that integrates multiple medical specialties, including pulmonology, gastroenterology, radiology, and pathology, in close collaboration with anaesthesiologists, intensive care physicians, nurses, therapists, and allied health staff to ensure an optimal surgical journey for patients and their families.
The Department of Thoracic Surgery at SSMC is distinguished by advanced surgical techniques that have placed it at the forefront of medical innovation, particularly in robotic thoracic surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and video-assisted single-port thoracic surgery for the treatment of lung, airway, oesophageal, mediastinal, and chest wall disorders.
Our medical team includes a distinguished surgeon with international expertise, along with two pioneering specialists holding leading national roles, and more than 100 medical publications, in addition to more than 10 years of experience in thoracic surgery. We provide unparalleled clinical and surgical expertise.
SSMC is a specialised referral centre for hospitals and other specialties for all complex cases and post-thoracic surgery complications.
Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) is a two-day, interactive course, which includes mandatory, pre-course e-learning. It covers the practical skills and knowledge that health care professionals need to effectively care for surgical patients, including those who are deteriorating or at risk of doing so.
