With over 10,000 procedures performed, Professor Mannaerts is among the most experienced bariatric and weight loss surgeons in the Middle East. He performs the full spectrum of bariatric surgeries – including sleeve gastrectomy, classic and mini gastric bypass, and SADI bypass – with a strong focus on complex revisional bariatric procedures. His surgical philosophy emphasises minimal trauma, reduced scarring, and bloodless surgery, promoting faster recovery and optimal cosmetic outcomes. Double board-certified in Gastrointestinal and Oncology Surgery from the Netherlands, Professor Mannaerts is also an Adjunct Professor at the UAE University. His extensive scientific background includes more than 100 PubMed-indexed publications and a Ph.D. from the University of Groningen on advanced colorectal cancer treatment. His evidence-based approach ensures patients receive the safest and most up-to-date surgical care. Before joining SSMC, he served as Head of Surgery at St. Franciscus Gasthuis in Rotterdam and Chair of Surgery at Tawam Hospital, where he led both Bariatric and Surgical Oncology units. Professor Mannaerts continues to provide expertise in Mediclinic Al Ain and Gulf Specialised Hospital in Muscat.
