Professor Baguneid is a highly respected consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon with over 30 years of clinical experience. His expertise includes managing complex aortic and carotid disease, diabetic foot disease, venous disease and wound healing, with a special focus on peripheral vascular disease. In addition to his clinical expertise, he is a passionate educator and has developed master’s programmes in surgical practice and vascular surgery, as well as national and international medical courses and conferences.
Professor Baguneid earned his medical degree from the University of Manchester and holds a global MBA from the Alliance Manchester Business School. He is an active researcher with an MD research thesis from Manchester in tissue engineering. His academic interests include wound healing, diabetic foot disease and soft tissue infections. He strongly believes in evidence-based clinical practice and has published over 100 articles, including 66 original papers and reviews, in peer-reviewed journals and is the editor of the Oxford Handbook of Key Clinical Evidence and Oxford Handbook of Surgical Guidelines.
Throughout his consultant career, Professor Baguneid has held numerous leadership positions, including Medical Director of a strategic partnership of four NHS hospitals in the North West of England, Deputy Medical Director of Strategy in a large teaching hospital in Manchester, and Chair of Surgery in a large hospital in Abu Dhabi. He has been instrumental in developing and implementing clinical strategies to improve patient care and outcomes. He is currently Chair of Vascular Surgery at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi and building a world class vascular service integrating educational programmes and research into clinical practice.
