Abu Dhabi, UAE, 27 April 2025: Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), part of Pure Health Group, has signed four strategic agreements with a range of government and private entities during its participation in Abu Dhabi World Health Week 2025, as part of its efforts to establish a pioneering model for a comprehensive health system capable of transforming patient care.
SSMC has signed these agreements with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, and AstraZeneca. Each agreement represents a qualitative addition in itself, and collectively reflects SSMC’s ambitious approach to integrating the distinct capabilities of each partner and coordinating efforts towards formulating a comprehensive and sustainable development strategy for the healthcare sector.
Through the signing of the agreements, SSMC aims to build a strong foundation for an advanced health system that contributes to the advancement of excellence in various aspects of healthcare.
Agreements with the Department of State, Cedars-Sinai and Northwestern Memorial Healthcare focus on enhancing the multiple operational aspects of healthcare, including medical education and training, employee health and wellness, as well as program development and clinical services.
The agreements also contribute to enhancing SSMC’s role in the development of medical education, equipping healthcare professionals with the modern knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality medical care, supporting joint cooperation in the field of employee health and wellness, and establishing a culture of prevention and health maintenance. In addition, the development of clinical programs and services will lead to more options for patients and the introduction of new and specialized treatment methods for various diseases, and this approach enhances the opportunities to receive visiting consultants from international institutions, adding qualitative value to the expertise available to patients.
The collaboration with AstraZeneca reflects the great interest in sustainability and contributes to the launch of the UAE’s first asthma inhalers recycling program, demonstrating SSMC’s commitment to environmental responsibility by adopting environmentally friendly practices that elevate healthcare and contribute to community wellness.
Dr. Marwan Al Kaabi, Chief Executive Officer of SSMC, said: “The signing of the four agreements is a key pillar of our global strategy and a strategic step towards building a comprehensive health system based on cooperation and joint work in the healthcare sector.
Dr. Al Kaabi added: “Collaborating with leading entities such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AstraZeneca, Cedars-Sinai and Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is a key pillar of our mission to provide exceptional healthcare to our patients. It contributes to our efforts to meet the current and future needs of our patients, and enrich their holistic experience during their treatment journey at SSMC.”
The four agreements reflect the hospital’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnerships, and the recent collaboration with Abu Dhabi University is another prominent example aimed at developing education and qualifying future leaders in the healthcare sector. The agreements open new horizons for the hospital to expand its services and enhance its capabilities, as well as build an environment based on the exchange of knowledge and expertise, which supports innovation in various areas of healthcare delivery.
