Dr. Abba Chedi Zubair

Double American Board-certified, Dr. Zubair is a consultant in transfusion medicine. He has been practicing medicine for more than 20 years and has received numerous awards for his research studies in the field of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine.   • Dr. Abdullah Mohamad Alakhras

    Dr. Abdullah Alakhras is an internal medicine residency graduate at SSMC. He also serves as president of the SSMC House Staff Council. His areas of expertise and interest include medical education, clinical leadership, research, antimicrobial stewardship, and quality improvement.

  • Dr. Alain Sabri

    Dr. Alain Sabri is currently the chairperson and the residency program director of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) at SSMC. He has lectured extensively throughout the world and organized and chaired many scientific meetings.
    After receiving the degree of doctor of medicine at the American University of Beirut, he completed his residency at Georgetown University in surgery and Case Western/University Hospitals of Cleveland in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He went on to pursue two subspecialty fellowships in head and neck oncologic/microvascular reconstructive surgery, and in otology/neurotology and skull base surgery at Vanderbilt. He has also completed a master’s degree in health and hospital management. He is American Board-certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He has practiced in several regions around the world and has held several leadership positions including chairing four departments, serving as associate chief of staff and assistant dean. He has received the title of Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine and other medical schools. Dr. Sabri was granted the Teacher of The Year Award at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, United States where he worked as a consultant. He was also the recipient of the honor award of the American Academy of Otolaryngology. He is currently working on two textbooks due to be published in 2022.

  • Dr. Eiman Zaabi

    Dr. Eiman Al Zaabi currently serves as chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medical Services at SSMC. Her areas of expertise and passion include malignant hematology, coagulation, and immunohematology.

    In addition to her role at SSMC, Dr. Al Zaabi is also the chair of the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) Lab Committee for COVID-19, a member of the UAE Supreme Council of Blood Bank, and a member of the Emirates National Accreditation System.

  • Dr. Emmanuel Nsutebu

    Dr. Emmanuel Nsutebu serves as a consultant infectious diseases physician and chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases at SSMC. His areas of expertise include bacterial and viral infections, parasitic and tropical infections, fungal infections, infections in immunosuppressed patients, tuberculosis, travel related infections, and infection prevention and control.
    Dr. Nsutebu also chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee for SSMC and is the medical director for the Office of Access Management. In addition to his work with SSMC, Dr. Nsutebu is chair of the African Sepsis Alliance, investigator for the African Research Collaboration on Sepsis, member of the Global Sepsis Alliance Board and Executive Committee, and member of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) Infectious Disease and Infection Control Council.

  • Dr. Faek Jamali


    Dr. Jamali is a consultant surgical oncologist and chair of the Division of Colorectal Surgery at SSMC. His practice focuses on surgical oncology, management of peritoneal surface malignancies as well as minimally invasive colorectal and robotic rectal cancer surgery.

    Dr. Jamali completed training in general surgery and surgical oncology in the US leading to American Board certification followed by advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery fellowship training at IRCAD/EITS in Strasbourg. Dr Jamali joined American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2002 where he stayed till August 2020 as professor of Surgery and vice chair for Clinical Affairs before relocating to the UAE to join SSMC.

  • Dr. Iftikhar Jan Suleman

    Dr. Iftikhar Jan Suleman is a consultant and acting division chief of Pediatric Surgery at SSMC. His areas of interest include minimally invasive pediatric and neonatal surgery, pediatric urology and endourology and thoracic and thoracoscopic pediatric surgery.

    Dr. Suleman has over 30 years of broad-based clinical, educational, research, and leadership experience in premier institutions. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the American College of Surgeons, the European Board of Paediatric Surgery, and leading surgical professional bodies in Pakistan and Japan. He has contributed to more than 75 research publications and book chapters, and has had numerous invited speakerships. Dr. Suleman is a referral physician for complex pediatric surgery and pediatric urology.

  • Dr. Imad Majzoub

    Dr. Majzoub is an emergency physician at SSMC. His research focuses on care of cancer patients, resuscitation and introducing palliative care as a line of service in the Emergency Department.

    He completed his training in emergency medicine at the American University of Beirut and his fellowship in oncologic emergencies and critical care at the University of Texas in Houston. Dr. Majzoub joined American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2018 as assistant professor of Emergency Medicine and later joined SSMC in February 2021.

  • Dr. John Devine

    Dr. John Devine is a consultant maxillofacial head and neck surgeon and division chair at SSMC. Dr. Devine also serves as an adjunct clinical professor at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi. His areas of expertise include head and neck surgery and advanced reconstructive surgery.

    Dr. Devine introduced 3D planning of tumor resection and reconstruction of the Head and Neck region to the UAE and is widely published, with more than 60 papers in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Devine also teaches locally and internationally on advanced reconstructive surgery.

  • Dr. Joseph F. Maalouf

    Dr. Joseph F. Maalouf is chair of the Division of Cardiology, consultant cardiologist, and medical director of the Office of International and Executive Care at SSMC. He is also Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and a Consultant in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He is a founding member and member of the Board of Governors of the International Society of Cardiac Ultrasound. His areas of expertise include 3D transesophageal echocardiography, intraoperative echocardiography, and valvular heart disease.

    Dr. Maalouf is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal titled Echocardiography and served for a number of years as a member of the Guidelines and Standards Committee of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and a member of the ASE 3D Editorial and Image Standardization Board.

  • Dr. Junaid M. Khan

    Dr. Junaid M. Khan currently serves as director of Medical Education and Consultant Neonatology Physician, and Associate Director of the Residency Program at SSMC. He is also an adjunct clinical faculty at Khalifa University. His areas of expertise include respirology of preterm neonates, nutrition, and non-invasive monitoring and resuscitation.

    In addition to his roles at SSMC and Khalifa University, Dr. Khan is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatrics, and Committee for Neonatal Resuscitation. Additionally, Dr. Khan is a regional instructor for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course. With a career spanning over 25 years in the U.S., Canada, and the UAE, Dr. Khan has published extensively in many journals, presented in many national and international conferences, and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.

  • Dr. Manal Elredy

    Dr. Manal Elredy is a senior obstetrics and gynecology consultant, as well as Urogynecology lead at SSMC.

    In addition to her role at SSMC, Dr. Elredy also serves as a WHO & UN Ambassador for Women’s Health and Urogynecology in the Africa and Gulf Region. Dr. Elredy has published 22 publications in high impact international journals and has been invited to speak and present in over 20 international and global scientific events in the U.K., Europe, U.S.A., Australia, and the Middle East

  • Dr. Mahmoud Kiblawi

    Dr. Kiblawi is an internal medicine specialist and medical director of Internal Medicine at SSMC. His areas of expertise include prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic complex multisystem diseases.

    In addition to his role, he is also involved in teaching and education and is a faculty member for interns and residents in the Internal Medicine Program at SSMC and Gulf Medical University. Dr. Kiblawi has published several articles and is continuously involved in new research work. His focus remains towards quality improvement in health care, and he is enrolled in several SSMC sub-committees. He is the internal medicine representative on the Infectious Disease Stewardship Committee, Mortality and Morbidity Champion, member of the Patient Journey Taskforce Committee and physician lead in the JCI chapter Care of Patient.

  • Dr. Mohamed Almarzooqi

    Dr. Mohamed Almarzooqi is a vascular and neuro interventional radiologist at SSMC. Prior to SSMC, Dr. Almarzooqi was a consultant in Shaikh Khalifa Medical City where he performed most of its vascular and neuro interventional procedures and led the Stroke Program and the Peripheral Vascular Imaging Program. He has extensive clinical expertise in the field of vascular malformation disease, peripheral vascular disease, embolization and interventional oncology.

    Dr. Almarzooqi, is a French board-certified in diagnostic imaging from Descartes University in Paris. He is the first UAE national to perform vascular and neuro interventional procedures. He is a board member of the Pan Arab Interventional Radiology Society, a member of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) Radiology Council and a member of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) Neuroscience Council. Dr. Almarzooqi is a founder of the Arab Emirates Club of Interventional Radiology.

  • Dr. Rawia Mubarak Mohamed


    Dr. Rawia Mohamed is a consultant anatomical pathologist at SSMC with over 15 years of experience in surgical pathology. Her areas of expertise include neuropathology and gastrointestinal pathology. Dr. Mohamed is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pathology in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Khalifa University.

    In addition to her clinical and educational work, Dr. Mohamed is a member of the International Academy of Pathologists, Royal College of Pathologists of Australia, the Hong Kong Shanghai Brain Consortium, and the Emirates pathology society. She is also a renowned presenter, having been invited to speak at multiple national and international conferences, and has also published numerous papers in her field.

  • Dr. Reham Tarek Amin

    Dr. Reham Amin is an Internal Medicine Consultant at SSMC. Her areas of interest include thromboembolism, population lifestyle modification, complex medical disease management, palliative care for non-malignant diseases, and critical care outcomes in COVID-19.

    Dr. Amin is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. She is currently the High Dependency Unit Medical Director and Clinical Practice Lead in the Division of Internal Medicine at SSMC.

  • Dr. Roderick Dunn

    Dr. Roderick Dunn is division chair of Plastic Surgery and a consultant plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon at SSMC. His areas of expertise include reconstructive hand surgery, congenital hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, lower limb reconstruction, and reconstructive microsurgery.

    A UK-trained and accredited consultant in plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery since 2005, Dr. Dunn has co-authored and co-edited two editions of the Oxford Handbook of Hand Surgery, has been invited to present at national and international conferences and seminars, and has published multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed publications.

  • Dr. Salem Alharthi

    Dr. Salem Alharthi is a consultant general, gastrointestinal, and hepatobiliary surgeon at SSMC. He also currently serves as chair of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) Surgical Council.

    Dr. Alharthi obtained his bachelor’s degree in medicine (MB. BCh. BAO and LRCSPI) from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1999 and completed his internship at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. He then obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland before completing a surgical residency training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, where he also obtained a fellowship of the College of Surgeon of South Africa in 2010.

    Dr. Alharthi was awarded a subspecialty certificate in surgical gastroenterology from the College of Surgeons of South Africa in May 2013 and a clinical fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery.

  • Dr. Walaa Abdul Rahman Alsafi


    Dr. Walaa Al-Safi is a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist and the current Maternal-Fetal Medicine lead at SSMC. She also leads the multidisciplinary Perinatal Mortality and Morbidity services at SSMC in collaboration with the Department of Neonatology. Her areas of expertise include high-risk pregnancies, prenatal diagnosis using advanced fetal ultrasound and echoradiography as well as invasive procedures.

    Dr. Al-Safi has over 30 years of experience in her field. She established and has been the director of the Obstetric Emergency Training Programs (PROMPT & MOEP) since 2014. She also serves on several committees and groups of the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi and Dubai Health Authority. Her passion for education and research have resulted in numerous lectures as an invited speaker nationally and internationally and over 26 publications including peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.

  • Dr. Waseem Fathalla

    Dr. Waseem Fathalla is consultant and division chair of Pediatric Neurology at SSMC. He also serves as program director of the Pediatric Residency Training Program. His areas of expertise and interest include critical care neurology, neurometabolic/neurogenetic disorders, end-of-life care, and Islamic bioethics.
    Dr. Fathalla’s interest in treatable neurometabolic/neurogenetic disorders began in 2006 during his time treating the first case of infantile Pompe disease in the UAE.
