A Holter monitor is a type of battery-operated portable electrocardiogram (ECG) that monitors and records a patient’s heart activity for 24 hours or longer. This test may be conducted if a traditional ECG test could not provide enough information to the cardiologist regarding the patient’s heart condition.

Our team of American and UK trained cardiologists recommend a Holter monitoring test for patients with arrhythmia, a heart condition that elevates their risk of abnormal heart rhythms, or those who have experienced a sudden loss of consciousness.

How is the test performed?

A Holter monitoring test is a non-invasive test that causes minimum discomfort to the patient. For this test, electrodes connected to the Holter monitor are attached to the patient’s chest and abdomen. The patient can wear the monitor over the shoulder, around the waist, or clipped to a belt or pocket.

Once the monitor has been set up, the patient can then return to their daily activities. This allows the doctor to identify irregularities in the patient’s heart rhythms while performing certain activities.
