Stapedectomy is a surgical procedure often performed to improve hearing for patients with otosclerosis.
Our team of North American and European Board Certified otolaryngologists perform audiometric tests and conduct a thorough physical examination before performing the surgery to determine if the patient is a suitable candidate for a stapedectomy.
During a stapedectomy, the physician utilizes a microscope to examine the small bones within the inner ear before making a small incision above the ear and moving the eardrum aside to insert the prosthesis and positioning it in place of the stapes bone to restore hearing. After sealing the surgical opening, the eardrum is moved back into place, and the patients’ hearing returns a week after the surgery with continued improvements over time.
Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) is a two-day, interactive course, which includes mandatory, pre-course e-learning. It covers the practical skills and knowledge that health care professionals need to effectively care for surgical patients, including those who are deteriorating or at risk of doing so.
