Tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy, collectively known as tympanomastoidectomy, is a procedure performed to treat conditions affecting the middle ear, eardrum (tympanic membrane), and small bones of the middle ear (mastoid bone) such as cholesteatoma.
Our team of North American and European Board Certified otolaryngologists utilize their extensive expertise to perform tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy procedures to provide specialized care to patients and enhance their quality of life.
A tympanomastoidectomy is performed under general anesthesia to prevent chronic ear infections from spreading to the mastoid bone resulting in severe damage. Our physicians often utilize facial nerve monitors during many of our ear surgeries.
During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision behind the patient’s ear to remove the infected portion of the mastoid bone and middle ear and reconstruct the eardrum.
Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) is a two-day, interactive course, which includes mandatory, pre-course e-learning. It covers the practical skills and knowledge that health care professionals need to effectively care for surgical patients, including those who are deteriorating or at risk of doing so.
