With 22 years of experience, Dr. Swaka brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to his role. A graduate of the University of Juba, Sudan, Dr. Swaka holds a master’s degree in Tropical Medical from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK. He also holds speciality training certifications in infectious diseases, microbiology and virology from the Royal College of Physicians, UK, and the Royal College of Pathologists, also in the UK.
Dr. Swaka has extensive clinical experience, having served as a consultant microbiologist and infectious diseases physician at Barts Health NHS Trust in London and Mid and South Essex NHS Trust, UK. He has held notable leadership roles, including Guardian of Safe Working, Division Lead for Clinical Effectiveness, and Infection Control Physician at Barts Health NHS Trust.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Swaka has contributed to clinical trials, published in reputable journals, and presented at national and international conferences. He is a passionate about medical education and he currently serves as Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at University College London, UK, Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at Khalifa University of Science and Technology and Gulf Medical University, UAE. Additionally, he is an international faculty member at the University of Juba.
At SSMC, Dr. Swaka serves as Consultant in Infectious Diseases, Undergraduate Tutor for the Tropical and Infectious Diseases Division, Quality Chair for the Tropical and Infectious Diseases Division, and Lead Physician for the Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) programme. He also chairs the Clinical and Competence Committee for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Programme in Abu Dhabi.
