Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A) is a surgery often performed to remove the small glands on each side of the throat (tonsils) and at the top of the throat behind the nose (adenoids).

Our team of highly skilled North American and European Board Certified expert otolaryngologists utilize T&A surgery for the treatment of breathing and swallowing difficulties in children caused by inflamed tonsils and adenoids.

How is the procedure performed?

T&A is a minimally invasive procedure performed under general anesthesia and does not require external incisions as the surgeon can easily examine the tonsils and adenoids just by opening the child’s mouth.

This procedure is performed to remove the tonsils and/or adenoid glands with the help of a specialized surgical tool that uses either heat or sound waves to extract the tissue and stop the bleeding. Some of these minimally invasive technologies may reduce postoperative bleeding and pain. T&A is a short treatment procedure that causes minimal discomfort to the patient and facilitates faster recovery and shorter stay at the hospital, provided there aren’t any post-surgery complications.
