Overview

The 2nd SSMC Pharmacy Symposium will delve into the different phases of medicine development, focusing on a range of topics from advanced research to drug approvals, guideline listings, and pharmacy and therapeutics discussions. The event will also explore medication dispensing and distribution, safe closed loop administration and post-therapy monitoring, involving state-of-the-art technology and automation.

Laila Abbasi

Clinical Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Laila Abbasi is currently working as a clinical pharmacist at SSMC in Abu Dhabi. She started her pharmacy career in 2014 after receiving her post Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UAE University. She then obtained the American Board certification in pharmacotherapy, as well as certifications in anticoagulation and pain management form the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Rama Emad Aljaarour

Pharmacist 1 Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Rama is an outpatient pharmacist at SSMC, where she is an active member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee. She completed her internship at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and played a key role during the COVID-19 pandemic providing vital support and care to patients in field hospitals.

Rizwan Ali Ali

Senior Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Rizwan Ali has 14 years of experience as a pharmacist, and has worked across all areas of the pharmacy practice. He has almost five years of experience in pharmacy informatics and automation, including clinical applications, his testing, validation and implementation. Rizwan has a Pharm.D. degree, with majors in pharmacology, clinical and hospital pharmacy.

Islam Samir Elkonaissi

Senior Clinical Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Islam Elkonaissi is an international speaker and a prescribing cancer pharmacist in the UK. He is a director of the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA) and an assistant professor at Gulf Medical University in Ajman, UAE. Having accumulated more than a decade of experience in the field of cancer, Islam graduated from the prestigious University College London, where he obtained his prescribing and postgraduate qualifications. He has held leadership roles in cancer services at world-renowned institutions, including The Royal Marsden in London and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, fostering his reputation as a respected professional in this field. Currently, Islam is overseeing the pharmacy haematology service at SSMC.

Ameera Ahmed Elgendy

Senior Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Ameera is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and has the ASHP Well-Being Ambassador certificate from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Ameera is also certified in Good Clinical Practice from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and she recently received her Values-Centered Leadership certificate from DePaul University in the United States. As a member in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at SSMC, she is actively involved in the management of the formulary system and the supervision of non-formulary medications.

Maysaa Abdulatif Espil

Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Maysaa Espil is an emergency pharmacist at SSMC. She graduated from Dubai Pharmacy College in 2016 and obtained her master’s degree in clinical pharmacy in 2022 from the same college. With six years of experience, she is part of a multidisciplinary team at SSMC involved in the provision of care to patients presenting with medical, neurological, cardiac, traumatic and surgical complaints among others.

Fatma Rashid Al Ghufli

Pharmacy Manager Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Fatma Al Ghufli is an outpatient pharmacy manager at SSMC in Abu Dhabi. With more than 15 years of experience, she has previously worked at the Ministry of Health before joining SEHA in 2012 followed by SSMC in 2019. She was awarded as the best pharmacist in Umm Al Quwain in 2011.

Noora Mohamed Al Hammadi

Supply Chain Management Director Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Noora Al Hammadi is the Supply Chain director at SSMC. She has more than eight years of experience in the field of pharmacy, and seven years in supply chain. She joined Mafraq Hospital in 2009 as a pharmacist and moved to Supply Chain in 2017. She joined SSMC in 2020, where she chairs the Product Evaluation Committee and is a member of many other committees representing Supply Chain.

Mohamed Elamin Hassan

Clinical Pharmacist, Neonatal and Pediatrics ICU Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Mohamed Elamin started his career in 2016 working as a clinical pharmacist for a cardiac center before transitioning, in 2018, to pediatrics, where his true passion lies. Mohamed has a master’s degree in clinical pharmacy and is American Board-certified in critical care and nutrition support. With over 10 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist, Mohamed has helped implement many clinical guidelines focusing on medication optimization for pediatric critical care services, and served for two years as a preceptor in the SSMC PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program, accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Lubna Hassan Issa

Senior Pharmacist, Logistics and Distribution, Supply Chain Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Lubna Issa is in charge of the SSMC drug store operations. She has more than 10 years of experience in the field of pharmacy, and around six years in supply chain. She has been working in the private sector since 2008, having joined Mafraq Hospital in 2012, Al Rahba Hospital in 2017 and SSMC in 2020.

Dr. Noha Abou Khater

Specialist, Internal Medicine Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dr. Noha Abou Khater has two years of experience in internal medicine and completed her residency training in an ACGME-I certified internal medicine program at SEHA. She has developed her niche in the treatment of comorbid patients, arthritis and joint disorders, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), pulmonary disorders, and emphysema among other diseases and chronic disorders. In addition, she is POCUS-trained and skilled at performing ultrasound-guided diagnostics and utilizing procedure-guided techniques. She received her medical degree from the University of Sharjah. After getting an MBBS degree, Dr. Abou Khater completed her postgraduate medical diploma at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and became a certified member.

Todd Knepper

Associate Member, Precision Medicine Moffit Cancer Center, Florida, USA

Dr. Todd Knepper is an associate member in the Department of Pathology at Moffitt Cancer Center, Florida, United States. He graduated with his Pharm.D. degree from the University of North Carolina – Eshelman School of Pharmacy, completed a personalized cancer medicine fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center, and gained regulatory experience as an ORISE fellow at the US FDA with the Genomics and Targeted Therapy group. At Moffitt, he has been a key part of the creation and development of the Precision Medicine Program, bringing cancer genomics into the clinic through the molecular tumor board (MTB) and Precision Medicine Clinical Service.

Maryam Hasan Al Mashgari

Senior Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Maryam earned her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy science from Dubai Pharmacy College and her master’s degree in quality management from the University of Wollongong in Dubai. She also holds a Professional Diploma in healthcare administration from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah. She is certified in medical quality (CMQ) by the American Board of Medical Quality and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by Association for Healthcare Quality in the United States. She also completed the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) internal assessment training certification in 2020 in Dubai, UAE.

Jiptin Poovakulam Mathew

Charge Nurse, Education and Support Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Jiptin Mathew is a registered nurse at SSMC in Abu Dhabi specializing in critical care. He has been working in the critical care area for 12 years and has previously served as an intensive care outreach nurse at Mafraq Hospital.

Mohammad Yousuf Mohammad

Pharmacist 1 Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Mohammad Mohammad holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Ajman University and a master’s degree in clinical pharmacy from Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland. He joined Mafraq Hospital in 2009 before transitioning to SSMC in 2019, where he worked across multiple pharmacy services and led the pharmacy CME education program. He is involved in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, off-label medication approvals, and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center. Mohammad is also main preceptor for Dubai Pharmacy College post-graduate students.

Danyah Musbah

Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Danyah Musbah is a Canadian Board-certified pharmacist, who joined SSMC in 2022 as the unit-based surgical pharmacist. She completed her B.Sc. in chemistry and Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2016 from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. She then worked as an inpatient clinical pharmacist at Woodstock General Hospital in Ontario, Canada.

Waeil Hassan Al Naeem

Clinical Pharmacy Manager Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dr. Waiel Al Naeem is the clinical pharmacy manager at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) in Abu Dhabi. He holds a M.Sc. degree in clinical pharmacy from Sultan Qaboos University’s College of Medicine, Oman, and is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. He is the formulary manager at SKMC and a member of SKMC IRB and PTC, and the SEHA PTC. In 2017, Waiel was elected as the vice-chair for the SKMC PTC. He is an active participant in the continuous pharmacy education programs, and in February 2020, was selected as director for the SEHA Pharmacy Residency Program. He is also chair of the SEHA Pharmacy Continuous Education and Research Subcommittee.

Ahmed Adel Sadeq

Dr. Hadi Skouri

Consultant, Cardiology Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dr. Hadi Skouri, MD, BS, is a Consultant Cardiologist in the Cardiology Division at SSMC.Dr. Skouri has more than 14 years of experience in heart diseases and their advanced treatment and care. He specializes in advanced heart failure including “Assist devices”, heart transplantation, cardio-oncology, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac amyloidosis. Dr. Skouri has spent more than a decade organizing public awareness campaigns about heart failure in the MENA region. He is also certified as an Advanced Heart Failure Specialist by Cleveland Clinic, Ohio-USA.

Haytham Mohamed Shahata

Clinical Research Pharmacist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Haytham Shahata is a clinical research pharmacist, overseeing pharmacy research in the Clinical Trials Unit at SSMC. He completed undergraduate and postgraduate study in clinical pharmacy in the United Kingdom, and possesses over 14 years of experience in the field. He has held key roles in pharmacy, including leadership positions and as a senior clinical trials pharmacist at prestigious institutions, such as University College London Hospital and Royal Marsden Hospital, with portfolios spanning over 400 clinical trials.

Jinan Shamseddine

Senior Clinical Pharamcist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Jinan Shamseddine is a senior clinical pharmacist with 17 years of experience in various areas of clinical pharmacy practice, particularly in surgical critical care. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Lebanese University, and she has a master’s degree in clinical pharmacy. She is an American Board-certified infectious diseases clinical pharmacist and is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Jinan has played a significant role in the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs and promoting responsible antibiotic use. She is the co-leader of the antimicrobial stewardship program at SSMC.

Dr. Osama Tabbara

President, IVPN-Network

With over 37 years of pharmacy experience, Dr. Osama Tabbara is the founder and president of the IVPN-Network, consisting of more than 15,000 members. He was the founder and executive director of Pharmacy at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for 10 years and the director of Pharmacy Services Administration at King Fahad Medical City, Riyadh, KSA, for four years. He also previously served as head of Pharmacies in Al-Rahba and Mafraq hospitals in the UAE, clinical pharmacist and supervisor of the TPN Team and IV Room at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyadh, KSA, and outpatient pharmacy supervisor and drug information specialist at Al-Hada Military Hospital, Taif, KSA.

Ali Jamil Taha

IT Transformation Analyst – Physician, Governance and Transformation Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Ali Taha completed his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 2012, and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2013 from the Lebanese American University. Following his successful pharmacy internship training, he joined the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) in 2013 as an attending clinical pharmacist. He became a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist in 2017. Ali was selected to participate in the development of the EPIC Health Information System for AUBMC, and obtained the EPIC WILLOW Pharmacy, BEACON Oncology and Ambulatory certifications. This accomplishment paved the way for his transition to the health information analyst role. In this capacity, Ali assumed responsibility for oncology workflows, medication management and protocol building.

Lamia Omer Yahya

Senior Clinical Pharmacist and Clinical Pharmacy Manager Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Lamia Yahya is a Senior Clinical Pharmacist and Clinical Pharmacy Manager at SSMC in Abu Dhabi. She holds both the nutrition and pharmacotherapy specialty certifications from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, United States. She is qualified by the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada and has certifications in anticoagulation, antimicrobial stewardship, project management, preceptorship and education, as well as in research.

Marleine Bejjani

Pharmacy Director Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Marleine Bejjani Moukarzel is the Pharmacy director at SSMC in Abu Dhabi. She has over 27 years of hospital experience. She was previously a pharmacy manager at SSMC, and during her tenure here, she successfully led her team to obtain approval from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) for narcotics e-registration and automation, achieve JCI accreditation with zero findings within the Medication Management and Use chapter, and launch key initiatives to enhance the patient journey – the “Scan and Learn” video counseling project and home delivery services for refills and telemedicine.

Rayan Elamin Fadl

Medication Safety and Quality Improvement Manager Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Rayan Fadl has eight years of experience in health care quality and medication safety. She holds a master’s degree in clinical pharmacy and is passionate about project management, data analysis, business analysis and innovation. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS), and a certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ), patient safety (CPPS), and healthcare risk management (CPHRM). Additionally, she is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and is a certified manager of quality organizational excellence (CMQ-OE), quality auditor (CQA) and a project management professional (PMP). Rayan is passionate about project management, data analysis, business analysis, and innovation.
