Course Overview

The SSMC Multidisciplinary Bronchoscopy Course is a two-day, simulation-based programme designed to develop the knowledge, practical skills, and clinical confidence required for safe flexible bronchoscopy and advanced bronchoscopy-guided airway management.

Through expert-led lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on simulation, participants will develop fundamental and advanced bronchoscopic skills while strengthening patient safety and multidisciplinary clinical practice.

Participants may register for either day individually or attend the complete two-day programme. Day 2 focuses on advanced bronchoscopic procedures and is particularly suited to clinicians with previous bronchoscopy experience.

Day 1: Foundations of Flexible Bronchoscopy

Learning Objectives

By the end of Day 1, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles, indications, contraindications, and safety considerations of flexible bronchoscopy
  • Identify normal airway anatomy and perform a systematic examination of the tracheobronchial tree
  • Demonstrate safe bronchoscope preparation, handling, manipulation, infection prevention, and equipment care
  • Practise airway navigation, bronchoalveolar lavage, bronchial washing and brushing, basic sampling, and foreign-body retrieval
  • Apply bronchoscopy during non-invasive ventilation and bronchoscope-guided tracheal intubation
  • Recognise common complications and apply appropriate prevention and management strategies

Day 2: Advanced Bronchoscopic Techniques

Learning Objectives

By the end of Day 2, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the indications and applications of endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), rigid bronchoscopy, advanced fibreoptic airway management, and bronchoscopy-guided percutaneous tracheostomy
  • Practise fundamental technical skills for advanced procedures using simulation models
  • Select appropriate techniques based on patient presentation, airway anatomy, and clinical indication
  • Recognise technical challenges and complications and apply appropriate troubleshooting strategies
  • Apply effective multidisciplinary teamwork and evidence-based decision-making during complex airway interventions
  • Integrate advanced bronchoscopy skills into clinical practice
